In this work the effect of Boron nitride (BN) nanoparticles on UV curing and on thermal curing of a cycloaliphatic epoxy using a cationic photoinitiator is investigated. Moreover the thermo-mechanical properties and surface energy of the cured nanocomposites were studied. The curing reaction was studied using a photo-differential scanning calorimeter and FTIR. Dynamic mechanical thermal analysis of cured samples was performed and a drop tensiometer was used to measure the surface energy of cured samples. The main conclusions were: BN influences thermal and UV curing processes, it reduces conversion. Adding BN significantly increased the modulus in rubber state. Samples with high BN content (5 wt%) are heterogeneous and show two Tg¿s. | |
