| The Historic Center of Quito (Ecuador), is located at 2,850 m.s.n.m. in an area of 376 hectares and 4,674 properties with buildings inventoried as heritage, of these, 130 buildings are monumental and correspond to colonial religious groups. The present investigation reviews the main historical and constructive aspects that influence the design and behavior of the traditional coatings used in the heritage buildings of the historic area corresponding to the XVI, XVII, and XVIII centuries. The purpose of the study will be the coatings based on earth, bastards, lime or combinations with other components that over time have changed their efficiency, either due to the loss of the properties of the material, its composition, incompatibility with new materials, the conditions of the environment, or by the practice of empirical interventions in buildings. The coatings as a construction material have a complex mixture of different products and historical moments of production and application, without forgetting the difference between thin and thick coatings; and even more the support surface in which they were applied. The methodology to be followed will be a historical analysis of the patrimonial asset, in this first exhibition of the theme the group of Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús will be analyzed, an emblematic colonial building of Quito and the Jesuit order in America, after this induction will analyze the constructive history beginning with the manufacture of the coatings, their structure, dosage, characterization, etc. Firstly, the design of the mixture is studied, for it will be necessary to extract witnesses respecting non-invasive protocols to submit them to the laboratory, secondly the analysis of the sample will allow to have criteria of the physical, chemical, mechanical and mineralogical behavior of the same. Finally, with the purification and systematization of the information, generate a critical evaluation of the type of covering that the masonry of the group of Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús will need, which will become technical specifications that guide future interventions | |
