Among the various publications proliferating architectural discourse in the 1970?s and 80?s, the Spanish, Barcelona-Based Arquitecturas Bis stands out. This is not necessarily or exclusively for the content it propagated, but rather to a unique strategy it employed both in terms of its editorial structure and its unique and innovative graphic design. The format fostered a consistent convergence between text and image, a major contribution to the radical transformation pioneered by little architectural magazines since the 1960s. They became the printed spaces where architecture was discussed for transformation, acting as sites for debate and innovation, working as a powerful medium in the translation and distribution of architectural knowledge. Beyond this, as it most distinguishing feature, Arquitecturas Bis, showed a strong connection to the newspaper aesthetic portraying for the very first time an architecture journal as newspaper via aesthetics. | |
