Abstract

| A key element for early attack detection is an accurate awareness of what is happening in the system analyzing all the data retrieved from cybersecurity remote sensors. This understanding of the current situation of the network is called cyber situation awareness. In this paper, cyber situation awareness is achieved through visualization techniques, which allow the user to analyze cybersecurity events (coming from typical cybersecurity remote sensors, such as proxies, firewalls, physical sensors systems, etc.) and detect abnormal patterns and behaviors, as well as assess their impact on the assets of the organization. The visualization tool proposed here follows a layered model (tactical, organization and strategic) which allows its use to personnel with different cyber security backgrounds and levels of knowledge. So, this visualization aims to enhance cyber situation awareness and support the decision making task. | |
