The study proposes an analysis of Isola neighbourhood in Milan. Complex relationships shaping urban context are approached throughout different readings, of its physical reality and the interactions with its inhabitants. Thereby will be highlighted: neighbourhood elements and their relation to the urban structures; public space, with its collective interplay rituals; urban functions from gender/LGTB perspective; immovable and movable defining elements, from building facades or urban design to individuals clothing. It is addressed a detailed study of open space layout, including streets, crossings, squares or gardens, in parallel to private inner spaces for public uses. As integrated architectures, they are tested to check if their formal features are related to symbolic and functional aspects, or to everyday life inhabitant's phenomenology. In short, the study is about understanding how this successful fragment of new old city is, to shed light on how could be designed and planned the 21st century urban regeneration. | |
