One of the most critical issues to the development of nuclear fusion is the design of structural materials to withstand the harsh operating conditions inside the reactor. These conditions are especially hostile for the components in the divertor, they should work under particularly extreme conditions (both mechanical and thermal) while subjected to high particle and neutron flux. The baseline design of the DEMO divertor plasma facing components is based on the ITER design which consists of W monoblocks as armour and a CuCrZr cooling tube as structural heat sink, where blocks and tubes are joined with a ?thick? Cu interlayer. Though, the difference between their thermal expansion coefficients and conductivity, make it necessary the development and characterization of novel interlayer materials. | |
