This contribution proposes to improve the response of reflectarray antennas based in aperture-coupled substrate integrated waveguides (SIW) by properly implementing additional slots to the original configuration. By optimizing the number, length and position of rectangular slots, an important improvement in the bandwidth of the reflectarray element can be achieved, while a true-time delay (TTD) is also kept by adjusting the length of the SIW. This strategy also allows to have a sharp response of the gain in terms of the frequency. The replacement of microstrip lines by a SIW allows low losses when the frequency increases, low profile and confinement of back radiation. With this kind of cells, the bandwidth for a 3-dB gain variation can be larger than 20% with gain selectivity of at least 18 dB. This features can be interesting in a wide variation of applications, where a frequency-selective channel is required to avoid interference. | |
