A project which intents not to intervene allowing the work that memory and matter of place needs to emerge. The industrial recovery of Puerto Bories, done by the Magellan architect Pedro Kovacic is a valuable example of an architecture free of styles, fashion and unnecessary influences. Exposed to the temptation of developing a spectacular project, with a highly mediatic impact, Kovacic decided to remain free of anything imposed, foreign or nonbelonging to the own logic of the place, understood as a mixture between historical matter and the intention of a new action. The nature of the architect?s work, like a metalsmith or a woodworker, allowed to develop a project which told what it wanted to be made. For that purpose, the site had to be known in detail, and be attentive to the signs, being contemplative but also open minded. Only in this way, contemplating and leaving the channels of the design process, it has been possible to respond skillfully and fairly in this special reconversion which allows the past and present of Puerto Bories to coexist. | |
