The objective of the study is to review, evaluate the groundwater management practices in the semiarid coastal Zapotal watershed (574 km2) in Southwestern Santa Elena Province, Ecuador. Due to saline aquifers, the low precipitation, and high evaporation, and resulting water scarcity, fresh groundwater is present only in few areas in Santa Elena. Traditionally, groundwater from Zapotal catchment has been providing drinking water for the local communities and their surroundings in Santa Elena Province. | |
