This paper presents an analytical study of the effects of unsymmetrical three-phase line on the so-called current unbalance factor. The asymmetry of the impedances in the three-phase lines/cables that feed induction motors produces voltage unbalance at the machine terminals. This voltage unbalance has harmful effects on three-phase induction motors, such as line-current unbalance, temperature rise, torque pulsation, derating in the machine, etc. In this paper it is demonstrated that the current unbalance factor depends only on the negative sequence impedance of the motor and the line impedances. Thus, the current unbalance factor has a practically constant value for a given motor and line asymmetry, being independent of the motor speed. An analytical method has been developed and experimentally verified. | |
