The paper addresses the pressure welding with Magnetically Impelled Arc Butt Welding (MIAB), known as ¿Magnetarc Welding¿ in the last decade, which was referred in previous works as ¿ROTARC Welding¿ since early ¿80s. Firstly, the state-of-the art of Magnetarc industrial application is presented, and the main advantages and disadvantages are underscored. Presentation of process principle, its main parameters and features follow. Contributions of the team in equipment design and process optimization are subject of a brief overview. Several variants of portable and steady Magnetarc welding units are also introduced. Considerations on joint characteristics follow, underscoring the influence of both heat and pressure on the structure of the weld and of the Thermo-Mechanically Affected Zone (TMAZ). | |
