The purpose of this research is directed towards establishing a first step in the correlative hypothesis between: the noise generated by VF-5 aeroplanes and its effect on the heart, on the physiopathology of the pericardial membrane, as well as to consider the subjective perception of the noise on the subjects studied. The nature of this investigation is both quantitative and qualitative. The study is limited to the population of the 12th Fighter Command group of the Venezuelan Military Air Force, with subject samples graded according to working areas. To obtain the data, the sonometer CEL 593, the dosimeter CEL 460, the ULTRAMAC echocardiograph, and a structured interview survey were used. There is a lack of knowledge regarding the damages of non-auditory noise which affect human health. The selection of protective equipment at an auditory level does not correspond with the frequencies of the noise generated in the working area, and incidences of thickening of the pericardial membrane, with cases of slight stroke, have been detected. Among the recommendations established as priorities is the inclusion in the institutional annual medical checks of a complete protocol at cardiovascular level; in cases of incidence the follow-up and cardiovascular evolution of the subjects at risk is established in periods of less than six months. All measures to mitigate and diminish noise in the various working areas are considered. | |
