Under certain conditions, auditory and visual information are integrated into a single unified percept even when originate in different locations in space The main motivation of this study was to research the degree of perception that a group of people has related with the sound phantom image position variation, along the screen, with regard to the picture using a standardized audio systems based on ITU- ecomendation-775. [1] Audio-visual sequences were presented to a group of people, varying the difference of position between picture and sound phantom image using a panning control. The aim was to find the differential threshold (DL) of position incoherence perception between the sound and picture, when moving the sound along the screen. In this manner, it's possible to quantify subjectively, by means of the psychophysical method of the constant stimulus, the minimum perceptible variation in the difference of position between audio and picture by the spectator in audio-visual productions. The paper discusses the accuracy necessary to match up the position of the sound and its image on the screen, considering the effect of attraction of the image to the sound, and the limits that a discrete L-C-R audio system has for recreating the frontal sound image. | |
