During the last years the scientific community has realized flow regime importance as a connexion and explaining element of the fluvial ecosystem. Considering of this paradigm, to evaluate environmental integrity, flow regime alteration analysis is necessary. To reach this objective, this work proposes: 1) establish reference conditions: selectting regime components with a grater environmental meaning - magnitude, frequency, seasonability and rates of change-. Each of these aspects is analysed with 24 parameters, both the medium values behaviour and the extreme ones (floods and draughts). 2) Evaluation of hydrological alteration: based on these metrics, 24 indexes of alteration have been proposed that measure the altered regime distortion against the natural one allowing us to have a reference of the environmental implications these distortions generate. As similar as DMA (Ecological Quality Ratios, REFCOND, Working Group 2.3) these indices have been defined as a quotient between parameter values in the altered and natural flows. These indexes vary from zero to one, zero indicates a maximum flow alteration and 1 the absence of alteration. 3) The Authors will present you a new software called IAHRIS (Indices de Alteración Hidrológica en RIos) to characterize hydrological regimens an estimate hydrological alteration. As example, the software have been applied to Vado dam, situated in the cabecera of Jarama river which is a part of Madrid (Spain) water supply system. Values used correspond to daily registers during the last twenty years, both in regulated regime (vertidos to the dam) as in natural flows (dam supplies). | |
