Light filaments excited by axiscon Bessel beams constitute an interesting alternative way of achieving high intensities and uniform plasma channels over long propagation distances. Bessel beams can be generated by passing Gaussian laser beams through an axicon. The resulting beam exhibits an intense core surrounded by rings. Since this core lasts over much longer distances, compared to Rayleigh lengths of focused beams, the axicon-generated Bessel beams can potentially be very useful in nonlinear optical applications. | |
