| The overall objective of this work was to assess the energy potential of olive and vine residual biomass in the county of"Tierras de Libertad"(Ciudad Real,Spain)in order to propose an action plan for energy valorization.The county encompasses 2052.65 km2 with a population density of only 10.66 inhabitants per km2.Methodology involved a comprehensive analysis of the agrarian structure by GIS,field surveys,assessment of yields,biomass samplings and laboratory analysis. Dry-farming agriculture based on vineyards and olive-trees is the prevailing economic activity in the county of "Tierras de Libertad".production of vine and olive pruning biomass was estimated at 6,854 t fm.year-1(20% moisture content)and 22.790,86 t fm.year-1(30,5% mositure content),respectively;that would mean 2.244,2 and 6.461,4 toe.year-1, respectively.Pelletizing facilities,as assessed by GIS tools,would be built in the centre of gravity of the residual biomass production, the borough os Almedina.Accordingly,if an action plant is adopted for energy valorization of vine and olive residual biomass,pelletizing might represent an important way of rural development. | |
