Abstract
PERFORM aims to provide an innovative and reliable tool that is able to monitor and evaluate motor neurodegenerative disease patients, advice their doctors and caregivers, and overall ease the patients¿ management process. Parkinson's disease, mainly, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis will be the model diseases. PERFORM will implement a multi-sensor wearable system and a testing kit to obtain the data and it will keep track of the medication and meal times and compositions. Symptoms, medication and meal intakes will be considered by a decision support system that intends to provide: 1) a proposal of medication schedules to the clinician (aimed at slowing wear-offs) 2) a UPDRS based assessment of whether the condition of the patient is stable or worsening and 3) sets of both rules (new medical knowledge) and population/demographic correlations. A demo can currently be provided on acquiring and transmitting signals with our own system, detecting falls and trunk inclination, assessing the severity of the cardinal symptoms and LID, recognizing basic activities, modeling the symptoms in a patient personalized profile and obtaining medical rules through existing medical databases to generate the knowledge PERFORM requires to accomplish its ultimate objectives.
