In this paper we present the results of the collection of medicinal and aromatic plants carried out by diverse Spanish research groups since 2000. In this period 1477 samples belonging to 16 species have been collected. Our bioprospection started with a bibliographic search in different sources, such as herbariums, libraries and botanical databases. The citations were represented in UTM grid references of 10x10km and the itineraries were designed. Plant material of at least 50 plants taken at random, so that they represented the whole population (diverse zones, sizes, colours, etc.), was collected for analytical purposes. Leaves and flowery tops, fruits or roots were collected according to the species. Passport details of the place of collection were taken. Mature seeds of great yellow gentian, St. John¿s wort, spike lavender, Spanish lavender, Spanish marjoram, common thyme and Moroccan wild thyme were collected for germination studies. These species plus: bearberry, coriander, common hawthorn, sweet basil, cotton thistle, rosemary, Spanish sage, winter savory and milk thistle were collected for its conservation in germplasm bank. | |
