The intensity level of the images increased as fruits ripen, due to the chlorophyll degradation and so the histogram shifted toward brighter levels. Three or four naturally grouped clusters could be recognized in the fruit samples on the R image histograms using the Ward method (blush and ground color sides) and also in those corresponding to R/IR images. The corresponding average histograms of R/IR images were more Gaussian as compared to those obtained with R histograms, that is to say the distortion of illumination was avoided. Regarding the internal validation of the R/IR classification a high percentage of well classified fruits was obtained, when comparing the observed classification to the predicted classification (90% of accordance). | |
