Abstract
The DEPPLAS Project: DEvelopment of Products in PLAStic came about as a theoretical-practical application for the new subject called Design and Manufacture with Plastic Materials, taught in the 5th course at the Higher Technical School for Industrial Engineers, part of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (U.P.M.). This project has enabled the subject to be approached from its very beginning in order to adjust it to the European Credit Transfer System (E.C.T.S.), while at the same time seeking to encourage students to take an active part in their own learning. Complete product developments have been undertaken by teams of students as a way to the practical application of design and manufacturing concepts acquired in theory classes. In order to obtain physical models, the rapid prototyping technologies of the ¿Product Development Laboratory¿ have been used. The use of these technologies for teaching purposes constitutes a whole new experience in the U.P.M..
