We present a study of dialogue efficiency, timing and rhythm in human-dialogue system interaction. We compare results obtained for a system with an embodied conversational agent (ECA) providing a visual reference for the system¿s speech output, with results obtained for the same system without the ECA. We found the effects of the ECA were limited, though it may help users understand the state of the dialogue. More interestingly, rhythmic patterns in the users¿ utterances change when problems are encountered. These effects could be exploited to develop system strategies to detect problems and make the conversation more robust. | |
