We introduce the topic with a review of the agricultural insurance schemes currently available in Europe. A discussion about the likely effects of CC on the EU agriculture then follows as a motivation for the theoretical analysis. This discusses how CC may affect premium setting, actuarial calculations and insurance demand. Numerical examples of yields¿ distributions obtained under climate change scenarios, as compared to yields under present climatic conditions illustrate to what extent insurance can provide feasible adaptation strategies. The final section presents the current EU legal framework for agricultural insurance after the CAP Health Check and discusses how it could respond best to the challenges of the potential future situation of climate change. | |
