The aim of this work is to evaluate the virtual water content of fruit crops in Spain. Eight different fruits were selected because their relative importance in production and export. The water footprint of the studied fruits is very important compared against the daily value of Spanish economy, as many agricultural products. In these irrigated crops the blue water component is very important. The crop growth cycle is along summer time when in the Mediterranean climate rainfall is scarce and climate moisture deficit is high. The other important component of the water footprint is the grey one due to the relative high value of water needed to dilute the N-nitrate leached from the crops. | |
