Abstract
III-V high concentrator solar cells are promising candidates for reducing the cost of photovoltaic electricity in terrestrial applications. Nevertheless, before their commercialization a complete assessment of their reliability must be carried out. For this purpose, a full strategy considering real time tests and homologated accelerated tests has been designed. First results of accelerated tests are now available and presented in this paper. Accelerated step-stress temperature tests have been carried out by a laboratory certified according to ISO standards and taking into account optoelectronics standards. For simulating real operation conditions, all devices subjected to step-stress temperature, have been biased at the same current level as they would handle working at 1,000 suns. The results show that, regarding this particular test, these solar cells present MTTF values up to 113 years.
