Angular and soiling losses of PV modules in tracking systems

Abstract
The purpose of this work is to calculate the angular reflection losses that undergo flat-plat PV modules working in solar tracking systems under real operating conditions. The calculation of these angular losses at different sites has been performed by using an analytical model, formerly developed by the authors, that has proved to be in good agreement with the experimental data. Calculations consider the effect of soiling also, which is useful in cleaning maintenance decisions. As expected, the lowest angular losses are obtained in dual-axis tracking systems in locations with high proportion of beam solar radiation ¿sunny climates-. It is demonstrated that the annual clearness index is an important indicator of the angular losses in these systems. PV modules in azimuth trackers show angular losses slightly higher than in dual-axis, and both significantly lower than those in non tracking systems. All values increase as functions of the soiling level.
