Orolingual angioedema has been reported as an unusual complication of treatment with tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) for acute ischaemic stroke. Preceding treatment with angiotensin- converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE-I) may increase the risk of developing angioedema by decreasing degradation of bradykinin. We investigated the incidence of angioedema, its clinical characteristics and relationship with preceding ACE-I use in a cohort of patients receiving intravenous intra-arterial tPA at a single UK centre. | |
