This paper presents the design of microstrip to stripline transitions built on the same and different layers of substrate. To achieve this in the first case, a cavity is opened on the substrate layers above the stripline. The main interest of these transitions is the ability to excite stripline directly from the same layer, as well as to use them as 50 matched interconnection between lines and MMIC¿s. Two transitions of this kind are realized and measured, as well as a vertical feedthrough from microstrip to fully buried stripline, which is of interest in case of microstrip and stripline circuits sharing the same substrate. Comparisons of measured circuits and simulations provide insight on what are the effects of the fabrication tolerance of critical structures such as substrate cavities. | |
