Datos
Descripción
Optimal methods developed to manage conservation programs are based on the minimisation of the average genealogical coancestry between individuals. However, pedigree is often not available. Previous studies dealing with microsatellites-like markers showed that the use of marker information was of limited value for maintaining genetic diversity. The objective of this study was to determine the benefits of the use of large panels of SNP. Results show that the use of genome-wide information to minimise coancestry leads to higher levels of diversity, especially when several offspring per mating can be genotyped. Notwithstanding, pedigree still appears to be quite powerful for managing conserved populations particularly for genome sizes typical of those found in livestock species
