This document presents a study carried out by the research project COTA, with the objective of developing a method to evaluate the risk associated with rock falls in rock slopes. This method of evaluation could in the future be a part of a remote control and alert system that, within a program of management and control of slopes permits to warn and this way prevent accidents that may occur due to rock falls, especially in roads and railways. The work developed relates manly with the determination of the volume of the block that could be loose, the volume of the block that in fact affects the road or railway and the development of a method to evaluate the risk of rock fall
