For the last ten years, since the crash of Concorde at Charles de Gaulle International Airport on July 2000, there has been a big concern about the detection and removal of FOD (Foreign Object Debris). The direct and indirect costs of FOD damage (also known as FOD, Foreign Object Damage) have been estimated in $13 billion USD per year. The use of radar technology has become an alternative way to detect these objects and it has been already installed in some airports. Here, it has been studied the feasibility of a high-resolution radar in millimeter-wave band to detect FOD, which has been designed in the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. | |
