Nowadays, there is a big concern about security issues for convoys in hostile environments during war-periods or in peacetime surveillance missions. There are several works for automotive applications working in W-band and the goal is to go beyond and improve its feature to work as surveillance radar. In this paper, the design of a radar sensor at 77 GHz is presented. It is based on hybrid technology: microstrip, waveguide and MMIC. In particular, the design focuses on the RF subsystem: transmitter and receiver modules. The MMICs employed are Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS), from UMS Company. The substrate employed is CuClad, with a 2.17 dielectric constant and 0.127 mm thick. It has been designed to be lightweight, small and powerful enough to accomplish surveillance tasks in hostile environments, especially on board Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and Humvees. | |
