The construction system is based on two basic modules manufactured using sawn redwood timber (Pinus sylvestris L.). One of the modules is designed for the piles of the bridge and consists of a tower up to 6,60 m in height with 6 columns braced with diagonals. The deck of the tower is extended along both sides in a cantilever with a total length of 5 m. The second module is formed by a simple supported bay with a 5 m span between towers. This modular system makes it possible to design the footbridge with a slight horizontal curvature and slope to give a pleasing aesthetic effect. A pedestrian bridge 200 m long was constructed in 2003 in the south of Spain (Isla Cristina, Huelva) with this modular system. It is used to connect the maritime promenade with the beach over a sea channel. The structure was visually inspected two years after construction and showed good appearance and state of safety. | |
