In this work, we employ Large Eddy Simulations (LES) of turbulence one- way coupled to Lagrangian tracking to study the influence of gravity on particle statistics in a fully developed channel flow in two different positions. The particles released into the channel have a Stokes number (St) equal to 125. Also, the resolved turbulent kinetic energy is calculated for two different grids in order to determinate the Index of resolution Quality for Large Eddy Simulations (LES_IQ) and choose the grid that ensure a good LES. The mean streamwise particle velocity, root mean squares velocity component and mean wall normal particle velocity computed with LES are compared with data obtained by mean DNS available at http://cfd.cineca.it. The presented results indicate that, in general, there is a good agreement between LES and DNS for particle velocity statistics that not depend on the time behaviour of particle wall normal concentration. | |
