| Workshop Description Agile testing and critical systems It is a widely shared impression that the agile community and the critical system community live in completely different worlds. Actually, the critical system people normally develops according to standards like IEC 61508, MIL 882 or ED 109, they emphasizes well defined development processes, they often have contractually specified requirements, and detailed documentation of all activities is very important. This approach is radically different from the usual agile development approach. However, we think there are mutual benefits of bringing the two communities together. For example, agile testing approaches can most likely bring many advantages to critical system testing. These possibilities are currently not well understood and exploited. Objective The objective of the workshop is to bring these two communities together and to discuss topics of common interest. The expected outcome will be a better mutual understanding of the two different approaches to quality testing. We expect presentation of current approaches in quality management and testing and ideas for applying agile testing approaches in safety and security critical system testing. Workshop structure The workshop will be organized in the context of the STV (System Testing and Validation) workshops. The STV Workshop is a series of events initiated in the year 2002 and seeks to provide answers to the many open issues related to testing and validation. Former editions took place in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010. The STV workshops have followed the same structure with invited presentations, a call for papers with selection of the best papers for presentation, and time for discussion. The STV events have always been organized as workshops attached to other conferences.
