WehavesynthesizedanewBi0.5Pb0.5CrO3 perovskitephasebymeansofahighpressurereactionat 70 kbarand1000 1C. Thedistortedorthorhombicperovskitestructurecanbeindexedinthespacegroup Pnma with latticeparameters a¿5.4768(1)Å, b¿7.7450(2)Å,and c¿5.4574(1)Åatroomtemperature, but undergoesastructuralphasetransitionandentersintoa P21/m monoclinic distortedperovskite phase below150Kwith a¿5.4173(2), b¿7.7286(4)and c¿5.4930(3).Thestructuraltransitionis coincident withtheonsetofmagneticinteractions.Atlowertemperaturesaweakferromagnetic structure isevidentrelatedtoantiferromagneticCr-spincantingandaspin-glasstransitionisobserved at E40 K.Thesemiconducting-typeelectricalresistivityisrelativelylow,associatedwithCr3þ/Cr4þ electron hopping,andshowsconsiderablemagneto-resistance(upto15%).Duetothelowresistivitythe dielectric permittivity ?r could bedeterminedonlybelow To80 Ktobe E300anddidnotshowany strong temperature-dependence.Ferroelectricitywasnotdetectedinthe T-rangeinvestigatedandno magnetocapacitance effectswereobserved. | |
