Descripción
The importance of the Solid State Processes (SSP) of materials increased in the last decade due to the industry demands of improved properties of joined/surfaced materials, combined with costs reduction and energy saving. In this view, new and/or micro-scale solid state processed materials are used by aerospace, automotive or electrotechnics industry. Nowadays, classic solid state processes are mainly applied to light materials, but progresses were also reported in steels. In this field, the tools design, the technology and practical techniques surpassed the fundamental approach of the materials solid state processing. The SSP parameters optimization research was based on different Finite Element Models, approaching the material flow in the large plastic deformation domain. The materials flow theoretical outputs, as strains and stresses, were experimentally validated as well as the joints quality dependency on the up-setting and/or friction force. The presentation approaches the solid state welding/joining and surface processing based on thermo-mechanical energetic input. The envisaged Solid State Processes are: ¿ Solid state joining processes: Cold Welding - CW (butt and spot welding; cold welding on cogged surfaces); Friction Stir Welding - FSW; ¿ Solid state processing: Friction Stir Processing - FSP. Main directions of SSP theoretical and experimental research: ¿ The deformation and flow pattern of the parent metal. Finite Element Modelling - FEM of CW and FSW/FSP based on large plastic deformation formulation. Processed material strains and stresses state results. Experiments using tracer technique validate the model. ¿ CW parameters optimization - pressing and squeezing forces values Finite Element Analysis - FEA obtained. Graphs and equations. FEM Pressing force values vs. the experimental ones. ¿ Pressing force correlations, rotational and transverse speed couple in case of FSW/FSP. ¿ Micro-scale locally modified materials obtaining by FSP. Local analysis of the material¿s structural transformations and hardness measurements.
