| Nowadays becoming competitive is a critical challenge for organizations. Software process improvement and innovation is an obvious and logical way to address the increasing need to be competitive in the software industry. There are several international standards and best practices models, such as Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), ISO 15504 or ITIL among others to be used in process improvement. Organizations under mandatory or global market pressure are forced to use more than one improvement model. Process improvement related to services and outsourcing has grown rapidly. Some topics are playing an important role. Examples of these topics are contract engineering, risk management in acquisition, and service ¯nancial management. Organizations have recognized that the technology related to service and software processes is constantly evolving due to the new challenges. Some of these challenges include, but are not limited to, how SMEs implement process improvement, how ontologies address process optimization derived from the new software approaches (agile methods, statistical process control, lean six sigma, data mining, software architectures, human and cultural factors. . .). Finally, service and software process improvement is a unique opportunity for global emergent markets and industries to implement best industry practices in a fast growing sector leading to global products and services. A brief description of each paper selected for this volume is presented in the following. | |
