In this paper the behavior of a single-point cutting tool in a new micro-machining process is presented. A serial-parallel machine tool composed by a 3-PRS mechanism and a linear XY table is used. The serial-parallel mechanism positions the tool tip in the workspace P = [x, y, z, ?, ?, ?]T; the 3-PRS mechanism positions the tool in Z and the rotation in ?, ?. The linear table provides the movements in the X and Y axes, in addition, the cutting tool can rotate around its longitudinal axis. Because of the particular structure of the machine tool it is essential to know the dynamic response of the machine tool, since this is conditioned by the behavior of the structure during the cutting process. During the cutting process the geometry of the structure and its characteristics change, also the cutting forces on the tool tip could be oriented in any direction. | |
