Nesidiocoris tenuis (Reuter) (Hemiptera: Miridae), a zoophytophagous generalist predator cosmopolitan in the Mediterranean basin, is released in tomato greenhouses in Spain for the control of the key pests Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) and Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechidae). Moreover it can also feeds on thrips, mites, leafminers and other lepidopteran pests. Chelonus inanitus (L.) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is a solitary egg-larval endoparasitoid of many noctuid pests as for example Spodoptera exigua (Hübner), S. littoralis (Boisduval), S. frugiperda Smith, Helicoverpa armigera Hübner and Heliothis virescens Fabricius. In the laboratory however, it can also develop in the factitious host Ephestia kuehniella Zeller (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae). The efficiency of biological control programs is affected by interactions among different natural enemies and between natural enemies and chemical products. In this work we have studied: 1) firstly, the possible intraguild predation of N. tenuis on C. inanitus by conducting choice tests. Spodoptera exigua or E. kuehniella parasitized and non parasitized eggs were offered to N. tenuis females. The results showed a higher consumption and a significant preference for parasitized eggs in both cases. 2) secondly, the toxicity of six modern insecticides with different modes of action (flonicamid, flubendiamide, spirotetramat, deltamethrin, metaflumizone and sulfoxaflor) to N. tenuis adults when they fed on treated eggs of E. kuehniella for three days. Based on the lethal and sublethal effects (offspring production and longevity) observed, sulfoxaflor and metaflumizone were the two most detrimental products to the natural enemy.
