Tourism is now one of the fastest growing sectors in the world and a first class source of wealth creation and occupation, especially in developing countries. In recent years the United Nations, through its agencies and programmes, has highlighted the importance of linking tourism development to sustainability in order to ensure the future viability of tourism. Sustainable tourism is the one that develops in a respectful way to the natural, cultural and social environment. This includes a fair relationship between the tourist and local communities, where the benefits of the activity are distributed as evenly as possible. Furthermore, ecotourism is used both as a synonym of the above concept of sustainable tourism, as in a narrower sense, referring to tourism that takes place in the natural environment. | |
