Abstract
The results of performance tests performed in a 60kWh Vanadium Redox Flow battery (VRFB) and power inverters are presented in this paper. The VRFB is connected to a building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) system of 6.74kWp, located at Herdade da Mitra, Evora. To characterize the performance of the VRFB the following tests were performed: a complete charge from zero to obtain the state of charge (SOC) variation with the voltage of a battery reference cell; full cycle between operational SOC limits (between a real SOC of 2% and 95%) energy eciency test; variation of the 0.1% SOC energy eciency with the SOC, and variation of energy eciency with the charge/discharge current. The power inverters were also tested to determine power eciencies and respective variations with operating conditions (voltage and power). Finally, the results are analyzed and conclusions drawn from the point of view of the technical feasibility for PV systems of the VRFB.
