Given the potential of BIM, it is the right time to address aspects which are as important as education. The purpose of this article is to analyse the degree of competence in using and understanding BIM of construction undergraduates at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, from the beginning of their degrees until they get their first jobs. The results obtained indicate that the level of knowledge about BIM is less than 43% and 18% claim that they do not know what it is for. Despite the low percentage of knowledge, there is a high level of motivation, given that more than 98% of those surveyed express an interest in learning to use it.
