In experiments of high-harmonic generation, attosecond pulse generation, and of other phase-sensitive interactions of fewcycle pulses with matter, mirrors are usually used to focus the driving pulses because of the widespread belief that lenses would introduce strong pulse deterioration. In these phase-sensitive interactions, it is also desirable to maintain a constant pulse carrier-envelope phase (CEP) in the interaction volume, or at least to control its spatial variation. Although it has been theoretically proven that the CEP does not follow the arctan law of Gouy?s phase, the relevance of accurately tracing the CEP variation has not been adequately underlined. | |
