For many experienced industrial engineers, it can be difficult to find suitable activities for continuing professional development. Organizations can be loath to spend money on staff learning new skills unless they are required to perform different tasks. Academic training courses may not be applicable for industrial practice, and although software vendors? courses can be useful to learn about improvements and new features in their tools, these are often now covered in brief webinars or documentation. Added to that, the benefits from sharing knowledge across different industries can be difficult to achieve. Attendance at NAFEMS events is one way for both new and experienced engineers to continue their professional development, with presentations giving insight into how simulation is being used in their own sector and others, the chance to hear from several software providers and the opportunity to meet a wide range of people with an interest in simulation and discuss challenges and new developments. International events, such as the NAFEMS World Congress provide great opportunities for this but so do the events organized by the NAFEMS Regional Steering Committees. NAFEMS Iberia held two seminars in 2017, a Thermal Modelling Event held in February (nafe.ms/2fORV00) and a Manufacturing Process Simulation event in May (nafe.ms/2jdHzpm). Here we present an article based on the best presentation from the 2015 NAFEMS Iberia seminar on CAE Based Fatigue (nafe.ms/2fOxWyi). Readers interested in presentations from previous NAFEMS events can access them through the events pages on the NAFEMS website. | |
