Abstract
This work aims at analyzing the profitability of DARE (Deep Water Accumulator of Renewable Energy), an energy storage system based on a pumped-storage cycle located around 500 m depth on the seabed. To do so, the life cycle costs have been assessed and the system operation has been simulated in the context of the Spanish electricity market. Results show that the DARE system is cost competitive for bulk energy storage compared to other more mature storage technologies
