From the point of view of the comfort of the dwellings¿ users, the façades of the buildings play an essential role. That is why façades, together with the roof, are the main transmission paths of outer aerial noise and through which heat is lost in winter and vice versa in summer season. The protection of inner environments has to be achieved considering the different elements that are part of the façade, such as glasses (which are the weakest), walls and frames, searching for compatibility between thermal and acoustic characteristics of each of the elements to obtain the comfort of the inhabitants. This paper presents the results of a research on the correlation that exists between the acoustical insulation and thermal isolation of the façades of dwellings located in areas of Mediterranean climate. This climate is characterised by its temperate and damp winters and its warm and dry summers. In order to achieve this, acoustical isolation to aerial noise tests were carried out in situ in the façades of 376 dwellings located in the southeast of Spain. The tests were carried out following standard ISO 140 ¿ 5 [1] and the constructions were analysed according to the location¿s climatology. The correlation that exists between the acoustical isolation and the thermal isolation was obtained, and design recommendations are proposed for the location of dwellings in the Mediterranean climate. | |
