Indoor characterization of concentrator PV modules involves several basic requirements, most of them well known from conventional solar simulators: a minimum irradiance level and uniformity and a reference light spectrum. However, CPV systems imply narrowing of the acceptance angle, i.e. the system acceps only light coming within a small angle. So a maximum angular size of the source becomes an extra condition. A novel solar simulator for high concentration PV systems has been designed and manufactured at IES-UPM. A complete characterization of this simulator has been carried out. Additionally, a comparative set of indoor and outdoor measurements of a CPV system have been casrried out in order to assess its validity, showing its practical use for control or sorting purposes in a production line. | |
