Agricultural soils in semiarid Mediterranean areas are characterized by low organic matter contents, featuring small fertility levels (Garcia-Gil et al., 2000). Application of crop residues and/or manures as amendments is a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to overcome this problem. However, these management practices may induce important changes in the N2O emissions from these agroecosystems (Huang et al., 2004; Vallejo et al., 2006). The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of applying maize residues and fertilizer inputs (organic and/or mineral), combined or alone, on the N2O emissions under field conditions. | |
