European Higher Education Area (EHEA) has opened a communication channel between training and business world in order to improve the employability of future professionals. In this context, the Technical University of Madrid is developing a project that seeks to define the generic skills required from labor market applied to the engineering area. For this purpose regional, national and international studies on professional competences have been integrated, generating an analysis, comparison and assessment of the key elements demanded from the business world, complemented with a participatory process, through a focus group with experts from the business world to validate the previous analysis. Results suggest that the orientation towards competence development from an holistic approach, and balanced from the technical, behavioral and contextual is a clear demand from the labor market for engineering professionals to be "competent", and are positioned as a strategic element to enhance future employability of engineering students . Elements of competence recognized through this research are consistent with the International Project Management Association (IPMA) knowledge base, and aligned with innovation activities in which this model is currently comprised in both undergraduate and postgraduate as an experience to replicate in other areas of training. | |
