Abstract
In this communication four models of project management certification (IPMA, PMI, P2M and PRINCE2) are compared. These models have their own bodies of knowledge and standards, its own certification process and apply worldwide. Of these models, IPMA and PMI are the ones with greater international recognition; PRINCE2 is recognized primarily in Europe; and P2M in Japan. Fifteen indicators have been defined to compare their different aspects. The results evidenced similarities and differences between the four systems of project management certification. The guidelines and standards for project management have been developed for various purposes: 1. Provide knowledge and practices for management of individual projects (Projects), 2. provide knowledge and practices for enterprise project management (Organizations), and 3. development, assessment and certification of people (People). Thus, IPMA has developed its guidelines and standards for Projects and People; PMI for Projects, Organizations and People, PRINCE2 for Organizations, and P2M for Projects and Organizations.
